The Black Unicorn Library & Archive Project

The Black Unicorn Library is a Black queer feminist library and archive. We celebrate libraries as sites of possibility and freedom. Black Unicorn centers the literary and artistic contributions of Black women, queer, Trans, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming people, and honors the far-reaching influence our storytelling has had on the lives of generations worldwide.

Black Unicorn is a beacon of inspiration fueled by the genius of Black women’s stories, queer and transgender herstories, a love of libraries, and Audre Lorde. The Black Unicorn exists because there are not enough spaces to celebrate our beauty, to seek refuge from the world’s brutality, and for education that feeds us.

“When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.”

— Audre Lorde
